Meet Matthew Greeley

Matthew “Mateo” Greeley wants to be Latino someday. He has worked for the Church in various ways for more than 20 years as a teacher, youth minister, diocesan director for youth and young adult ministries and now in diocesan communications. He currently works as the associate director for communications for the Diocese of Trenton in the heart of New Jersey. Mateo serves as the communications representative for Region 3 for the V Encuentro. Mateo says that he does not feel capable of grasping all that the V Encuentro means for our universal Church, the Church in the U.S. or even for himself, but he is excited to participate in the process and grateful for the chance to collaborate.

“For me, the blessing of the V Encuentro is having an opportunity for growth… growth in terms of my family through meeting amazing people, growth as part of this visionary process and helping name the needs of the people of God, and growth through sharing what I have to offer too. I have learned so much from the Hispanic community and they have made me feel welcome as I am, a Catholic gringo on the road with Christ who is open to doing what God asks.”
