An Encuentro is about encountering Christ on the road and recognizing Him in others. For Fr. Luis Rodríguez, pastor of Corpus Christi Parish in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, this encounter has taken place in a wide variety of environments. Born in Humacao, Puerto Rico, Fr. Luis was mostly raised in Brooklyn, New York, along with his 4 brothers and one sister. His Boricua roots brought him back to Humacao for college where he then studied at The Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico in Ponce followed by three years at Regina Cleri Seminary in Ponce. Fr. Luis then entered the seminary in Northampton, PA, at the Vincentian Seminary Mary Immaculate. He received a Master of Divinity from St. Charles Borromeo Theological Seminary in Philadelphia and was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Harrisburg in 1993 by Bishop Nicholas C. Dattilo. He’s taught in both elementary and high schools and has served as a police chaplain for over a decade in various places. Fr. Luis has also facilitated "encounters on the road" through his many speaking engagements around the country on diverse retreats focusing on RCIA, how to be better Catholic men, marriage, and Lent. His knowledge and ability to teach and to preach about our faith have also led Fr. Luis to television. He has worked with EWTN since 1995 as the responder for all of the Q&A's of the programming on the channel in English. And, while Fr. Luis is great at speaking about being Catholic, he has also lent his skills to the written word having translated Catholicism for Dummies into Spanish. He is working on another book project currently called An Examination of Conscience for Priests. Fr. Luis walks with people in so many ways. He loves to hike and is into bicycling too. An important "encounter" for him has been with his Chihuahua, Gigi, who keeps him real. Fr. Luis is a vital part of Region 3’s team for the V Encuentro representing the Diocese of Harrisburg and helping the New Jersey and Pennsylvania dioceses on our road of Encuentro.   2016 © Matthew Greeley/ENAVE.  All Rights Reserved.
