Why did Loyola Press decide to be a Padrino for V Encuentro? Was it because we wanted to support the Hispanic/Latino Catholic community and have the Hispanic/Latino community learn more about Loyola Press? Was it to help build leadership for the Church and make sure our faith can be passed on to future generations? Or was it because, as a nonprofit Jesuit Ministry, we have a commitment to be in service to faith and to the justice that faith demands?
It’s all of the above. Loyola Press has a deep commitment to seeing the Church thrive and to seeing Hispanic ministry outreach in communities across the country grow stronger. We are honored and thankful for the opportunity to support this important initiative, and extend our heartfelt prayers to the U.S. Church for blessings on the V Encuentro process and beyond.
One expression of our commitment to V Encuentro is through the creation of the video resource, “The Daily Examen for Missionary Disciples.” Produced specifically for the V Encuentro, this Ignatian prayer resource draws on the Jesuit tradition of Ignatian spirituality and reflection. It was conceived with the support of USCCB’s Secretariat of Cultural Diversity in the Church (Hispanic Affairs) and the participation of Fr. Allan Figueroa-Deck, SJ., theologian, pastoralist, and pioneer in U.S. Hispanic ministry.
Our hope is that this DVD resource will be used by you and other individuals, as well as in communal prayer opportunities in parishes, dioceses, and organizations, to strengthen present and future missionary disciples in Hispanic and Latino communities and the entire Church in the United States. If you’re looking for additional bilingual resources for your parish or community, please take a moment to review Finding God for grades 1–8 and these dynamic adult spirituality titles. 2017 © Loyola Press.
