Clergy in Newark introduced to the V Encuentro

The stage has been set for the V Encuentro with priests and deacons in the Archdiocese of Newark. On June 1, Monsignor Nelson Pérez, Director of the Subcommittee for Hispanic Issues for the USCCB spoke about the process of the V Encuentro to a group of priests and deacons of the Archdiocese. Other members of the chancery staff were also encouraged to attend. Monsignor Pérez emphasized the importance today of the Hispanic community in the Church of the United States and how the importance of preparing them for the future. He imparted the rationale and objectives of the V Encuentro, giving a brief history of the huge impact the past four Encuentros on our country’s Catholic Church. His presentation was well received by participants according to comments of participants. Deacon Asterio Velasco, Archdiocesan Coordinator of the Hispanic Apostolate, wrapped up the gathering by explaining the timeline of the process, what the Archdiocese had done to that point, and shared the work of Region III. Asterio also shared the details of how the process of the V Encuentro will involve all levels of our Church, from parish and diocesan communities to regions and eventually the national Encuentro in Texas in 2018. 2016 ©  ENAVE.  All Rights Reserved.
