Catholic Relief Services Partners with the V Encuentro
Washington, DC- The National Team of Accompaniment of the V Encuentro (ENAVE) is excited to announce a Padrino Partnership with Catholic Relief Services (CRS) for the
. CRS is the second organization to commit to a $35,000 per year contribution for the next five years for a total contribution of $175,000 towards the V Encuentro. Their commitment also includes the support and presence of many of their staff at the national and regional level. Headquartered in Baltimore, MD Catholic Relief Services was founded in 1943 by the Catholic Bishops of the United States to serve World War II survivors in Europe. Since then, CRS has expanded in size to reach more than 85 million people in 101 countries on five continents. Their mission is to assist impoverished and disadvantaged people overseas, working in the spirit of Catholic social teaching to promote the sacredness of human life and the dignity of the human person. President and CEO Dr. Carolyn Y. Woo stated, "Our mission impels us not only to "promote human development by responding to major emergencies, fighting disease and poverty, and nurturing peaceful and just societies," but also to "serve Catholics in the United States as they live their faith in solidarity with their brothers and sisters around the world." In the spirit of "acompañamiento" (accompaniment), CRS joins the process of V Encuentro to strengthen our relationship with the Hispanic/Latino Catholic community in the U.S. so that we can increasingly be known as their agency." The
is a three-year process of pastoral-theological reflection culminating with a national event, and followed by one-year of implementation. The process includes leadership development and formation, and a broad consultation that identifies the needs of Hispanic Catholics in the United States and how to address them. The outcome of the consultation is shared through
(gatherings) at the parish, diocesan, regional and national level, and articulated in a concluding document with pastoral guidelines and recommendations.
